Chick Hearn, the late and legendary radio and television voice for the Los Angeles Lakers, was the inaugural broadcaster to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, and he was behind the mic for 3,338 Lakers game in a row. Hearn was famous for his self-coined “word’s-eye view” of the game. Those listening to their in-car radios could, thanks to Hearn’s words and colorful descriptions, imagine their radio dial as a tiny basketball court, with players slam-dunking, making shots from “downtown,” rebounding, blocking shots, setting picks, and everything else one does in a basketball game.
This version of Word’s-Eye View, one that is centered on the written word, is inspired by Hearn’s skill at describing basketball games.
Whether you need something to be copy edited, developmentally edited, or proofread, I will infuse your words with power, excellence, and precision while paying close attention to every detail.
I look forward to working with you!
Some Personal Details About Me, AJ Hughes
I live in Goshen, Indiana, and I spent 15 years of my life living in the Los Angeles area. My dad and I went to Los Angeles Lakers basketball games and loved listening to Chick Hearn and Stu Lantz broadcast the games on KLAC radio. I have traveled throughout Asia and Europe, and I really need to get to Madagascar. I enjoy reading books and watching movies because both center on story. Speaking of books, good bookstores are priceless. I feel fortunate to have visited Powell’s Books in Portland; Seminary Co-op Bookstore and Women & Children First, both in Chicago; Strand Bookstore in New York City; and Parnassus Books in Nashville, owned and run by author extraordinaire Ann Patchett. And I must give a shout-out to my hometown bookstore, Fables Books in Goshen, Indiana, and Brain Lair Books in nearby South Bend.
